Secondly, I have been to the Playwright many (many) times and it is the most wonderful place to lose your money.
Clean, nice, good food, attractive servers...you really can't imagine it being an OTB.
Stephen Travers, (an Irish lad) loves playing the horses while serving as classy Maitre' D/Manager will make sure affore mentioned "$2 Bums" don't make it past the front door. He seems to only hire "off the boat" Irish girls to work the bar (which is fine, just making an observation) and will chat you up about who you like in the 5th at Calder just as much as he'll you ask how your food was.
If you ever get to 35th st. between 5th and 6th Ave. go on up to the 2nd floor, take a seat at the bar, order up the burger and take a look at one of the complimentary Daily Racing Forms The Playwright provides.
I am guessing you'll be back.
